IGNITE’s mission is to build the largest, most diverse movement of young women who are ready and eager to own their political power. Through training, mentorship, and hands-on experience, IGNITE equips young women with the tools and confidence to become leaders and changemakers in their communities and beyond.
GRANT PURPOSE & IMPACT
Amplify Her Foundation funding will advance IGNITE’s mission to develop the next generation of civic and political leaders among young women in New York City. Over the next year, IGNITE will hire, train, and mentor a NYC Fellow, a passionate young leader with an interest in a career in public service.
This Fellow will support IGNITE’s local, student-led chapters at colleges and universities within New York City, including Columbia University, New York University, and CUNY/SUNY schools. These student-driven clubs explore building campus-wide political participation and civil discourse via policy and organizing workshops, ballot education parties, meetings with elected leaders and prospective candidates, and voter education and mobilization to teach and develop leadership skills.
Additionally, the grant will bolster the IGNITE the Vote Campaign and the IGNITE the Capitol (ITC) initiative. The Vote Campaign will incentivize voter engagement events across local campuses, focusing on ballot education and community mobilization. The ITC program will provide participants with training and a visit to City Hall where they will engage with legislators, learn about the legislative process, and advocate for critical issues such as racial and gender justice.
